This Privacy Policy explains what personal data Serpens Center (“we”, “us”, “our”) collects when you visit serpens.center, why we collect it, and the choices you have. Who we are
Serpens Center is a Ukrainian defense and security research organization. This website (serpens.center) is where we publish our research, analysis, and Defense Tech Monthly newsletter.
What personal data we collect
We collect personal data only when you actively provide it to us through a form on this site:
- Newsletter sign-up: if you subscribe to Defense Tech Monthly, we collect your name, email address, and (optionally) your organization, so we can send you the newsletter.
- Contact form: if you send us a message through a contact form on the site, we collect your name, email address, and the content of your message, so we can respond to you.
- Career applications: the “Apply” links on our Careers page take you to a third-party recruitment platform (currently TheLobbyX). We do not receive or store your application data on serpens.center — that data is handled directly by the third-party platform under its own privacy policy.
We do not knowingly collect any special categories of data (such as health, religion, or political opinions) through these forms, and we ask that you do not include such information in messages to us.
Cookies and analytics
Like most websites, serpens.center uses cookies and similar technologies for a few limited purposes:
- Essential cookies: required for the site to function correctly (for example, remembering your language preference).
- Analytics cookies: we use Google Analytics (via Site Kit by Google) and Jetpack Stats to understand, in aggregate and anonymized form, how many people visit the site, which pages and publications are most read, and how visitors found us (for example, via search or social media). We use this information only to improve our content and site — we do not use it to build individual visitor profiles.
- Security: Akismet (by Automattic) helps us detect spam; it may process the IP address and content associated with form submissions or comments for that purpose.
Analytics data is collected in aggregate/anonymized form. We do not sell any data collected through cookies, and we do not use it for personalized advertising.
You can control or delete cookies through your browser settings at any time. Blocking analytics cookies will not affect your ability to read our publications.
Other services used on this site
This site is hosted on WordPress.com (operated by Automattic Inc.), which provides the underlying infrastructure and security for serpens.center. Depending on the page, you may also interact with embedded content or plugins from Jetpack and OptinMonster (Automattic and OptinMonster respectively), each governed by its own provider’s privacy policy.
How long we keep your data
We keep newsletter sign-up and contact form entries for as long as needed to fulfill the purpose you provided them for (sending you the newsletter, or responding to your message), or until you ask us to delete them.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, or request deletion of your personal data, or to withdraw consent (for example, to unsubscribe from the newsletter). To exercise any of these rights, email us at info@serpens.center and we will respond as soon as we can. This policy is provided for transparency and is not a substitute for legal advice; if you need a formal legal assessment of your rights, please consult a qualified professional in your jurisdiction.
Children’s privacy
This site is intended for a professional and policy audience. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children.
